Second Class Citizens: No Driving For Women In Saudia Arabia

Saudia Arabia is the only country in the world where women cannot drive cars. There is no law specifying that women cannot legally drive, however they are usually jailed or heavily fined for getting behind the wheel. The rights of women are severely restricted as the written permission of a male guardian, such as a father or son, is required to do things such as work, travel, and marry. In fact, women cannot vote or even request a divorce.

A fact that many people of the outside of Saudia Arabia do not know is some women prefer for things to be the way they are there.  A female journalist from Saudia Arabia, Maha Akeel, stated,"Look, we are not asking for ... women's rights according to Western values or lifestyles ... We want things according to what Islam says."
